Store and boutique owners are shifting business online in response to coronavirus
BY JENNIFER HERRERA While much of San Antonio is in self-isolation mode during the COVID-19 pandemic, Alamo City boutique owners are thinking creatively to stay connected with customers—and sales. At Feliz Modern (and its sister store, Feliz Modern POP), co-owner Ginger Diaz says they decided to close temporarily starting March 16 and are switching their business model to online sales for the time being. They’re even working on a “social distancing care package” that customers can have sent to loved ones and friends. “Online sales are only covering 10 percent of our normal sales so it’s not a sustainable business model, but we are trying to also juggle meeting the basic needs of our employees to get hours,” Diaz says. “It’s extremely troubling for our future if this lasts more than a week or two.”
